Detox your Home event to encourage Wonthaggi to dispose of unwanted household chemicals on 31 Oct 2021

Bass Coast Shire Council is encouraging the community to dispose of unwanted household chemicals at the Detox your Home event, coming to Wonthaggi on Sunday, 31 October.

Detox your Home is a free and convenient service for householders to safely dispose of unwanted toxic chemicals. Detox your Home events are designed to accept a specific range of highly toxic household chemicals that arent normally accepted at most transfer stations because they pose a high risk when combined or stored in large volumes.

Toxic household chemicals, such as cleaning products, pool chemicals, pesticides and weed killer, can be safely disposed of for free at Sustainability Victoria's Detox Your Home event

Dispose your toxic waste

Toxic household chemicals, such as cleaning products, pool chemicals, pesticides and herbicides can be disposed of during the event. Paint, fluorescent lights and batteries are not accepted. Safe storage and disposal of household chemicals is essential to avoid harm to you, your family, pets and the environment.

Its dangerous to throw chemical products out with your regular rubbish collection as they could explode, ignite, leak or mix with other chemicals. Pouring household chemicals down the drain will pollute our waterways, harm animals and vegetation, contaminate our water supply and make rivers and beaches unsafe for swimming.

Experts to manage your toxic waste safely

Detox your Home events are staffed by experts who understand how to safely manage toxic household chemicals. Chemicals are safely stored during the event and then transported to a licensed facility for processing. With your safety in mind, Detox your Home events are now drive-through (no walk-ins) and contactless, supported by a COVID-safe plan. Registration is essential.

If you cant make it to Wonthaggi, there is also a Detox your Home event being held at the Koonwarra Transfer Station on the same day that Bass Coast residents and property owners can register for.

To check the full list of what is accepted and to register for the Wonthaggi event, head to detox your home. For more information on Detox your Home, contact Councils Waste Services Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211 or email basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au.
