Works on Track for the Traralgon to Morwell Shared PathwayContinuing works on the Traralgon to Morwell shared pathway. By Portal Admin - 1st October 2018 - Back to News Works are continuing on the Traralgon to Morwell shared pathway with works either complete or currently underway on five stages. The $4.5M project is underway thanks to contributions from the State Government of $2.9M and the Federal Government of $1.6M.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that to date the project had seen more than three kilometres of concrete pathway laid.
"With just one stage of the pathway yet to be awarded a tender, the progress on the project is significant. Crews are out at locations between Traralgon and Morwell preparing the areas and getting ready for construction. There is a further 1.4 km of concrete pathway to get down and nearly nine kilometres of gravel pathway to come.
"We have seen works completed at the Morwell Railway Station, Waterhole Creek and part of Crinigan Road, Morwell. Construction is underway at the rest of Crinigan Road towards Old Melbourne Road and Kay Street, Traralgon.
"A project of this scale is never without its issues but we are pleased with the headway made to date," Cr White said.
Cr White added that estimated completion of the project is April 2019.
"Imagine being able to take an autumn bike ride along the pathway? Or walking your dog along some of the newly-constructed sections. It’s an exciting prospect, not just for our own community, but for those who may visit here. The pathway will add a new string to our tourism bow.
"The vision for the Traralgon to Morwell shared pathway has long been held by the community. We are now making that vision a reality. And whilst the pathway is a physical infrastructure asset, the notion of offering options to help our community keep fit and healthy or connect socially underpins many of our project plans," Cr White concluded.
