Moe Community Urged To Have Their Say At ‘Speakout’

An interactive session where residents of Moe can contribute ideas on current issues in Moe and update themselves on the developments with the Moe Activity Centre Plan

By Latrobe City Council - 2nd August 2007 - Back to News

is taking place at the Moe Town Hall on Saturday 11 August.

The four-hour drop in session known as the ‘Moe SpeakOut’ will feature activities for children and teens, a free barbecue and entertainment, and run between 10am and 2pm on the day.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora, said the ‘Moe SpeakOut’ is envisaged as a fun and interactive way for the Moe community to find out about the processes being undertaken in developing the Moe Activity Centre Plan and have their say.

"This will be a great opportunity for residents to learn about the issues being discussed in the plan, and chat to stakeholders and leaders in the community, the consultants developing the plan, and council representatives about the issues. Importantly this is an opportunity for everyone to submit their own thoughts and ideas on the future of Moe in a friendly and relaxing environment," Cr Zimora said.

Cr Lisa Price said the current master planning work being undertaken for Moe Activity Centre is building upon previous work done by David Lock and Associates.

"The first stage of community consultation was in March when the Search Conference was held; a critical first step that allowed the various stakeholder groups to discuss their issues in relation to Moe as it currently is.

"The plan being developed discusses the location of facilities, design, safety and amenity issues, and suggests ways forward for developing a welcoming, attractive and liveable town precinct.

"People had the chance to talk about what was sacred to them what they would like changed and what the current issues are. This information has now been collated and themed and will form the basis for the SpeakOut," Cr Price explained.

"This is an interactive session where all residents of Moe are encouraged to attend and speak out on the particular themes identified through the search conference. It is important that as many people as possible attend so that all of the views are collected, as this thinking will help to create the vision for Moe," Cr Price said.

"There is no need to register. People can simply drop in for as long as they like between 10am and 2pm on the day, enjoy the entertainment, barbecue and activities; and contribute their own ideas as they see fit," Cr Price added.
