Take Advantage Of Great Bike Event - Mayor Urges

Businesses, community groups, entertainers and others who may have products or services that can be delivered to the 4000 riders expected with the Great Victorian Bike Ride in late November

By Latrobe City Council - 2nd August 2007 - Back to News

are being encouraged to register expressions of interest with council.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora, said this year’s Great Victorian Bike Ride provides a number of great opportunities for the local community to benefit from the influx of visitors to the Latrobe Valley.

The township of Yinnar is proudly hosting the overnight stop on Day 4 (Tuesday 27 November) of the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Around 4000 riders are expected to be taking part in the ride from Foster that day, with riders likely to start arriving at their overnight venue at the Yinnar Recreational Reserve from early in the afternoon.

"Already the Yinnar community has a host of activities planned to ensure that riders will enjoy their overnight stop in their town. However, we encourage members of the community to register their interest in providing products or services to the riders during their stopover," Cr Zimora said.

"Organisers are particularly in need of performers for the evening celebrations, which could include anything from musicians to acrobats. However, there are likely to be numerous opportunities for servicing the needs of such a large temporary community."

"Based on last year’s figures, approximately 4000 riders will be participating in the event so there are great prospects for those wanting to get involved."

Riders will depart on the Wednesday morning to continue on the next leg of their journey, which is from Yinnar to Rawson, with a lunch break being taken at the W H Burrage Reserve in Moe, offering other potential opportunities.

To register your interest, please contact Chris Repetowski at Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700 to arrange to receive an expression of interest form. Registrations will be accepted until Thursday 9 August 2007.
