Gallery reopens with local artist’s exhibition
Latrobe Regional Gallery is proud to present Presentiment, a selection of photo-based works from Morwell artist Manfred Krautschneider’s larger ongoing series 'Suburban Reflections'.
Latrobe Regional Gallery’s arts director, Dr Mark Themann, said the photographs transformed contemporary life into transcendent images."In the exhibited works the artist took inspiration from his realisation that modern art themes could be imagined in the subtle distortions of everyday streetscapes, such as reflective industrial surfaces. These photos sit on the border between recognition and abstraction.
"Manfred Krautschneider’s works have been seen in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia and he continues to use his everyday surroundings as material for his works, in combination with a sophisticated use of digital platforms to alter and re-compose his photo works prior to printing," Dr Themann said.
Krautschneider states: "For a time I presented successively more extensive distortions, and one could be mistaken in thinking they are abstract paintings at first glance. They also modify and fragment space, hinting at our own insubstantiality, and allowing a psycho-social reading, conjuring up fears of loss, conflict and destruction."
Dr Themann added that Presentiment showcased an exclusive selection of works that have never been exhibited in the Latrobe Valley.
"We’re delighted that Presentiment is the first exhibition (alongside two other artists) within the Gallery’s newly refurbished spaces, given that Manfred Krautschneider is a local artist," Dr Themann concluded.
Presentiment by Manfred Krautschneider will be on exhibition at Latrobe Regional Gallery from 15 July to 6 August in Gallery 5.
