Business Boost for St Paul's Anglican GrammarOn Friday September 3rd a Year 11 team from St Paul's Anglican Grammar School in Warragul presented a sparkling motivational seminar to an enthusiastic crowd of over 60 guests in the Science Centre - Lecture Theatre. By news@gippsland - 14th September 2004 - Back to News Working within the guidelines of the Young Achievers' Program, and with sponsorship from TXU, the team:
all in about four months.
Now the syllabus requires that they liquidate, pay dividends to shareholders as appropriate, (and company tax, by the way) and then all the proceeds go to the Latrobe Hospital's new Cancer Centre, to service all of Gippsland.
Seems like a super introduction for teens to entrepreneurship in a region short of employment opportunities.
The content was top quality and included:
-
A case study from a cancer survivor, Sophie Morell;
-
Career guidelines delivered with wisdom and humour from Herald-Sun Melbourne cartoonist Mark Knight; and
-
A stirring delivery from professional speaker George Krupinski.
Guests were treated to finger food and drinks before, during and after an efficient program.
The teen team excelled.
Of particular note, the team worked their way through plenty of the classic small business startup headaches along the way. They could not get insurance for their first idea, winning credibility for a public event was tough for a group of schoolkids, the size of the task kept growing, dealing with the public while attending classes needed some arrangements, puzzling over target audiences (and how to reach them) - but it was right on the night!
The team thanked their key supporters at the function; there's still a pile of paperwork ahead, but they expect to present a fat cheque to Latrobe Hospital in about four weeks.
Further details on the function and additional donations are the responsibility of Maxine Bradshaw at mmbradshaw@stpaulswgl.vic.edu.au
