The Three Chinese Tenors will perform at the Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon on Tuesday 21 October in what promises to be a very special evening of entertainment.

Latrobe City’s Manager Arts, Paul Holton, said that for a first time opera experience, or for the avid lover of this fine art, the dazzling voices of the Three Chinese Tenors will take audiences on a journey that begins in the west and finishes in the east

"Hao Zhou, known as ‘The Kitchen Caruso’, will be joined by Stephen Wu and Raymond Khong for the performance. Their repertoire includes well known Western operatic arias from Rigoletto, La Traviata, and Puccini’s ‘Nessun Dorma’ from Turandot. They also perform much loved songs such as O Sole Mio together with songs made famous by Mario Lanza in ‘The Great Caruso’ and ‘The Student Prince’, and popular songs from musicals by composers such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bernstein and Lloyd-Webber," Mr Holton explained.

"From the moment Hao Zhou was discovered singing as he worked in the restaurant kitchen at the Victorian Arts Centre, he was on his way to fulfilling his dream of singing at The Sydney Opera House. He was invited to a national vocal symposium with Dame Joan Sutherland and went on to become a member of the Young Artists' Program for the Victoria State Opera," Mr Holton said.

"As a principal operatic tenor, he has performed many roles in productions both with the Victoria State Opera and Opera Australia and as a tenor soloist, he has appeared with most of Australia's major orchestras including at the Sydney Opera House with Maestro Richard Bonynge," Mr Holton said.

A legacy of growing up performing acrobatics in a Chinese opera troupe, Hao has also mastered the rare skill of combining high C’s with high jumps.

"So whilst the Three Chinese Tenors principal focus is on beautiful singing, Hao has promised plenty of aerial action when the trio comes to Latrobe City," Mr Holton added.

Joining the tenors will be guest singer Nella Ortisi, performing the music of Kern and Gershwin.

"The music is combined with what has been described as ‘droll patter’, storytelling, and some irreverent translations that you certainly won’t hear at the opera. It’s a concert not to be missed," Mr Holton said.

Tickets are priced at $18 adult, $15 concession $16 group (10 or more tickets) and $45 family, and are available from Select Music Systems, Traralgon on telephone 5174 2849.
