Temporary Library Closure For The Big Traralgon Move

The Traralgon Library will open at its new location in the Traralgon civic precinct, in Kay Street, at 1pm on Monday 28 November; following the closure of the Breed Street branch during the week prior, to facilitate the move.

By Latrobe City Council - 14th November 2005 - Back to News

Traralgon Library users have been encouraged to stock up on books and other library borrowings prior to the temporary closure to minimise any inconvenience to themselves.

Latrobe City’s Manager Community Information Services, Valma Warren, said that the Traralgon library will be ‘on the move’ during the week commencing Monday 21 November and as a consequence the current Breed Street premises will not be open for business that week.

"The ‘after hours’ library returns bin will still be open at Breed Street for anyone who wishes to return books during that week; and there will be no ‘late fines’ issued to anyone whose books are due to be returned that week, and who returns them the following week at the new premises," Ms Warren said.

"Additionally, Latrobe City’s other libraries in Moe, Morwell and Churchill will remain open during the week that the Traralgon facility is temporarily closed. People can borrow and return books to any of the other libraries while Traralgon is closed, and return those books to Traralgon when it is reopened," Ms Warren explained.

"While we regret the week’s temporary closure, we feel it’s important that we dedicate ourselves to ensuring that the new library is fully functional from day-one of its operations in the civic precinct. Staff will still be working throughout the week that the Traralgon Library is closed, but their job that week will be to relocate and accurately reshelve the collection of about 34,000 items, and set up the new library for opening day.

"It is going to be a very exciting outcome, both for library customers and for staff, to have a new facility that is four times the size of the current library. We are positioning Latrobe for cutting edge library service in the 21st century," Ms Warren added.

For those wishing to access other Latrobe City libraries during the temporary Traralgon closure: The Moe Library is located at 32 Kirk Street and is open 10am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 9am-12 noon Saturday; the Morwell Library is located at 63-65 Elgin Street and is open 9.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am-12noon Saturday; the Churchill Library is located in McDonald Way and is open 9am-3pm Monday-Friday.
