Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer, Lyndon Webb, says a special Candidate Information Session will be held in the Wellington Room at the Port of Sale Civic Centre on 17 October at 7pm for people wishing to obtain further details about the election process.

Nominations for the election open on 20 October and will close on 25 October.

Wellington’s election will be held by postal vote and is being run independently by the Victorian Electoral Commission on the Council’s behalf.

Voting is compulsory for residents who are on the voters' roll for local council elections.

Residents who fail to vote without an adequate reason may be fined. Only non-resident voters and voters aged 70 years or over are not obliged to vote at local council elections.

Fifty-four local councils will hold elections in November 2005. The following council elections will be held in November 2008, when all 79 municipalities will go to the polls at the same time.

After this, council elections will be held every four years on the last Saturday in November.

For further details about the Candidate Information Session, contact the Council on 1300 366 244.
