Early Childhood Project To Improve Life For Our Kids

Members of the community interested in improving the outcomes for families and children in the Latrobe Valley are being urged to assist in the Best Start program

The program, which started in 2006, aims to provide assistance for all families and children in the Latrobe Valley.

Latrobe City Council’s coordinator of the Best Start program, Robert Richardson, said the program was a great opportunity for community members to help out others in the local area.

"The Best Start program has brought together a range of agencies to improve the health, development, learning and wellbeing of all children in the Latrobe Valley. It is a wonderful partnership program that is aiming to improve four areas of focus in the Latrobe Valley," Mr Richardson said.

"The four areas of focus are: improving literacy rates; increasing social support for parents, increasing breastfeeding rates and attempting to make it easier for parents to find information and access early childhood services including playgroups, kindergartens, maternal child health and other support services.

"To achieve these goals the project needs help from the entire Latrobe Valley community, including parents, and business and community groups, to be part of working groups, who will arrange activities, discuss important issues and take action," Mr Richardson concluded.

The Best Start program provides a great opportunity for the community to come together and improve outcomes for children, and for parents to have a say in how early childhood services are delivered in the Latrobe Valley.
