The booklet, ‘How to live confidently – information for older Victorians’ is now available with Mr Hall having a number of copies available through his office.

"The booklet provides a range of useful tips on all sorts of personal safety issues as well as contact numbers for when people need more information," Mr Hall said.

"It is a booklet that people can keep in their home and provide a ready reference when needed."

The publication has been developed to assist older Victorians to live more confidently and independently in their community.

It includes a range of simple tips, including how to take care in and around the home, improving security, travelling safely, managing finances and other legal issues and gaining access to services that will enhance wellbeing and independence.

Some of the information includes tips on preventing injury at home, looking after your own health, accessing home assistance, how to improve the security of your home, fire safety and what to do in emergency situations, issues around personal safety, financial safety and consumer rights.

There are also sections on how to travel safely, whether walking, driving or using public transport, and a list of other services that can assist older Victorians such as seniors’ cards, home modification and renovation services, resolving disputes with neighbours and victims of crime assistance.

The free booklet has been delivered across the state to community based agencies, including local government, neighbourhood houses and community information centres.

Mr Hall said those interested in obtaining a copy could also contact his office in Franklin Street Traralgon or on telephone 51747066.

More copies are available from Information Victoria on 1300 366 356, the Department of Justice on 1300 365 111 and at www.justice.vic.gov.au
