The release was held at GippsAero at the Latrobe Regional Airport, and was attended by the mayors and CEOs of Wellington and Baw Baw Shires, as well as well as a number of other distinguished guests and departmental staff.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Ed Vermeulen, congratulated Minister Ryan and his departmental staff on the completion of the Roadmap and acknowledged the many months of work that had gone into preparing it.

"It is heartening to see a range of initiatives and recommendations contained in the report that will have a direct and positive impact on the Latrobe City, Baw Baw and Wellington Shires.

"Examples of some of the recommended actions include an increase in funding and scope of the Latrobe Valley Industry and Infrastructure Fund (LVIIF) to enable improved access for SMEs. This will also enable organisations to utilise funds for activities outside of infrastructure - as long as the activities are employment generating;

"There is also a commitment to continued support for Gippsland Logistics Precinct and the Lurgi site; and funding for an expanded infrastructure/ freight/transport project that would include Port of Hastings connectivity," Cr Vermeulen explained.

Cr Vermeulen urged wide-ranging and immediate support for the projects and initiatives contained in the Roadmap.

"Support from governments, industry and commerce will strengthen the region’s economy and provide hope for the future of the Valley. We have a community waiting for the implementation of these projects so that we can begin to transition. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the state government to ensure a prosperous future for our community.

"Articulating the initiatives highlighted by the Roadmap into such a comprehensive report has been a long journey for everyone involved, including Latrobe City Council. Whilst the region eagerly awaited the Roadmap, the region is now eagerly anticipating putting the words into actions," Cr Vermeulen concluded.
