Hall Supports Heritage Emergency Listing

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Province Peter Hall has welcomed the emergency heritage listing for the Alpine National Park.

Mr Hall said The Nationals supported the continuation of cattle grazing in the high country as part of a balanced approach to managing the park.

"The emergency listing by the Federal Government is an important move and it gives hope to the mountain cattlemen that 170 years of heritage can be maintained in the future," Mr Hall said.

"This week’s rally in Melbourne has sent a clear message to Melbourne Labor that country people are tired of being pushed around by decisions which don’t give any respect to the views or people who live in rural and regional Victoria.

"The ban on grazing in the Alpine National Park is more about attracting green votes than protecting the environment.

"I am hopeful that common sense will prevail and we will see a continuation of the traditions which are such an iconic part of the Australian identity and a significant contributor to several communities in Gippsland."
