By Bass Coast - 28th October 2011 - Back to News The two awards were won for Cultural Heritage - Celebrating Inverloch’s Cultural Heritage, and Community Government Partnership - Community Planning Partnerships.
Chabrelle Chisholm, Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Planning Facilitator attended the the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (KABV) Award ceremony with Michelle Harris, a member of the Inverloch Community Planning Group.
Chisholm worked closely with the Inverloch Community Planning group in her role as Community Planning Facilitator and explained that the awards were for specific community projects.
"The Cultural Heritage - Celebrating Inverloch’s Cultural Heritage award acknowledged the work the Group has done in helping to preserve Inverloch’s national and cultural history," said Ms Chisholm.
Notes from the KBAV judges recognised that "the award included work done protect the Bunurong Marine and Coastal Park, famous for its dinosour fossils and Anderson Inlet used for fishing and boating. Projects included art and signage to reflect the geography and ecology of the area, linking historical signage to bicycle trails and walking paths."
"This Award was also for built heritage projects, which include the relocation and restoration of the Rocket Shed and the ‘Raise the Ripple’ project that preserved an historic sailing ketch."
"The second award received on the night was The Community Government Partnership - Community Planning Partnerships award for Inverloch Community Hub.
"This award recognised that Inverloch Community Hub is a great success and this is partly because of the number of positive partnerships between several government agencies, Bass Coast Shire Council and the Community, " Ms Chisholm.
This year KABV received 188 initiatives from 53 individual entrants from all levels of the community such as councils and shires, local community groups, schools and individuals.
"Inverloch was also nominated for two other awards and the Tidy Town of the Year award," said Ms Chisholm."There many significant towns competing with some outstanding projects, so being nominated for so many awards is something for the Inverloch community to be very proud of.
"Congratulations to the people of Inverloch, particularly the Community Planning Group for all of their committed work, "said Ms Chilsholm.
Michelle Harris from the Inverloch Community Planning Group said: "It was exciting to receive these awards on behalf of the Community Planning Group and the broader community.
"The Tidy Town Award process really highlighted for me the true community spirit and capacity that exists with our town", said Ms Harris.
