Community Warned On Pin Numbers

A warning has been issued to flood affected households and residents in East Gippsland not to provide personal banking details over the telephone.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 13th July 2007 - Back to News

The shire has received reports of people being contacted by phone and asked for PIN Number and account details.

Shire recovery coordinator Rod Wright said this procedure was not the way flood relief was allocated.

"There are people seeking to prey on the disadvantaged and we urge people not to provide any details of their bank accounts," he said.

"If anyone has received calls of this nature we also ask that it is reported without delay to the Bairnsdale Criminal Investigation Unit on 5150 2600."
