Latrobe City Council has commenced preliminary consideration of its 2001/2002 budget and is seeking public input into the process.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins advised that Councillors and officers met in the pre Easter week to consider a range of factors that may impact on the 2001/2002 budget.

Cr Jenkins encouraged members of the community to put forward comments and ideas for consideration as part of the budget preparation process.

"Council is very interested to hear from the community about issues that may be important in terms of the next years budget. Whilst we, as Councillors and officers, think we are aware of most of the issues in terms of service levels and capital works priorities, we are also keen to hear from people about areas in which we could improve our performance or where people may consider we are over servicing," Cr Jenkins said.

Council’s annual budget is in excess of $50 million, the majority of which is funded through rates and charges.

Chief Executive Officer, Penny Holloway, advised that these preliminary comments and suggestions would not compromise the right of anybody to make a formal submission in accordance with the Local Government Act.

"Those formal submissions will be invited during June after Council gives formal notice of preparation of the budget," Ms Holloway said
