Information Session On Becoming An Australian CitizenAn information session for residents of Gippsland, facilitated by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and hosted by Latrobe City Council will discuss the process and requirements of becoming an Australian citizen. By Latrobe City Council - 30th September 2009 - Back to News The information session is being held at 6pm on Wednesday 14 October 2009, in the Nambur Wariga Room at the Latrobe City Council corporate headquarters, 141 Commercial Road, Morwell.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship will also be conducting Australian citizenship tests in Morwell on 5 November 2009 and appointments can be made to sit the test.
Latrobe City’s deputy mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan, said residents from across Gippsland who are contemplating becoming Australian citizens will find the information session helpful and informative.
"Presenters will not only explain requirements for citizenship and the process of lodging an application for Australian citizenship, but will discuss recent changes to the citizenship test that come into effect on 19 October," Cr O’Callaghan said.
"This year our nation is celebrating 60 years of Australian citizenship and at special ceremonies held across every state and territory on Thursday 17 September to mark Australian Citizenship Day, more than 4500 residents became Australian citizens.
"At ceremonies held across Gippsland on the day, many residents spoke of their relationship with Australia with pride, and of their joy at becoming citizens.
"However ceremonies are held at many other times of the year and those contemplating citizenship here in Gippsland can take advantage of the information session on 14 October and citizenship tests on 5 November to move along the path towards citizenship, without having to travel to the metropolitan area," Cr O’Callaghan added.
