The plan is designed to provide strategic direction for the development, coordination and delivery of early childhood programs.

Latrobe City’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White said that the plan outlines Council’s commitment to early years education, care and health services.

"This plan will provide a platform for council and the community to work together to deliver quality services and improve outcomes for children and families across the municipality.

"The plan outlines five key outcomes that Council and the community can work together to achieve over the next four years," Cr White said.

The five outcomes are:

  • Children in Latrobe City have optimum health and wellbeing.

  • High quality, accessible services are available for children aged 0-8 and their families.

  • Community infrastructure both natural and built provides families with opportunities to support the growth and development of their children.

  • Children’s learning and development is enhanced through the provision of early learning programs.

  • Parents and communities have the capacity to care for children and promote their development.

"The adoption of the Municipal Early Years Plan 2011-2015 is an important step in ensuring that the children of our community continue to learn and grow in a happy, healthy and safe environment," Cr White concluded.
