While many staff from Latrobe City, International Power Hazelwood, Victoria Police and the Department of Human Services have already registered their intention to cycle to work on Wednesday, the national ride to work day is designed to attract anyone who rides to their place of employment on the day.

Latrobe City’s chair of the ‘Healthy Organisation Workgroup (HOW), Michael Sterling, said that anyone who rides to their place of work on Wednesday will be welcome at the breakfast celebrations.

"The free breakfast is being provided for riders between 7am and 9am at the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden. The breakfast is being provided by HOW, with contributions from Bakers Delight MidValley. There will be plenty of fresh goodies, something to appeal to everyone's palate," Mr Sterling said.

"Police from Morwell will be on-site and offering free bike engraving, and there is also the opportunity to win a giant mountain bike giveaway being sponsored by Mallard Cycles Morwell and Traralgon.

"Riders can compete for lots of prizes in many categories - best ‘swooper proofer’ helmet, oldest, youngest, furthest ride, first and last riders, and ‘lycra of the day’," Mr Sterling added.

For those who wish to join in the spirit of the day but would find the ride from home too big an ask, there is a ride around Morwell CBD, a distance of 3.6 kilometres, leaving Latrobe City Council's headquarters main entrance at 7am.

There will also be a presentation to and by the Latrobe 2008 Ride2Work Day Ambassador, Heather Hadley-Powell.

Riders are asked to register their interest and intention to participate in this year’s Ride to Work day on the website ‘ride2work.com.au’. Those registering should quote Latrobe’s team code # 228372, or contact Dave Urie, Vivianne Everett or Henk Harberts at Latrobe City, telephone 1300 367 700 for further details.
