Wellington Shire Council is pleased to announce its support of the area’s latest sport and active recreation initiative – the Eastern Gippsland Regional Sports Assembly.

By Wellington Shire Council - 26th October 2004 - Back to News

This program is funded by the Department for Victorian Communities, through Sport and Recreation Victoria as part of the Gippsport program. It will strengthen the quality and availability of local sport and recreation infrastructure in local communities.

The Gippsport Program Coordinator is based at the council offices and will develop programs within the community to encourage activity and healthy lifestyles, and help local sporting organisations to assist them to maximise their capacity to provide recreational opportunities across Wellington and East Gippsland shires.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "The council is delighted to assist in delivering this program to the Wellington community. It is all about networking and facilitating, and encouraging organisations to communicate and develop new and exciting programs to encourage people to be more active. It also encourages sporting organisations to run efficiently so they can more effectively provide their communities with a range of recreational opportunities."

Further information is available by telephoning Wellington’s Gippsport Program Coordinator Jenny Beha on 1300 366 244.
