The Andrews Labor Government is introducing Hybrid technology on new buses in the Latrobe Valley to reduce emissions, create local jobs and improve the passenger experience.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said the introduction of eight Victorian-built Hybrid buses into the Latrobe Valley Bus Lines fleet will boost accessibility and reduce the impact on the environment.

Trials in Victoria found Hybrid buses used 30 per cent less fuel and reduced noise significantly during idling and departing from stops.

Passengers also rated the new hybrid buses highly for quietness, comfort and overall journey experience.

The Hybrid Volvo buses being introduced are Euro 6 emission standard – the highest and cleanest level for commercial vehicles worldwide.

The body construction and fit out for new Euro 6 Hybrid buses will be carried out in Dandenong by Volgren securing jobs in Victoria.

All eight buses will feature low floor layouts to improve passenger access and safety.

The eight Hybrid buses will be phased into the bus fleet over the next three years as part of Latrobe Valley Bus Lines normal replacement program.

The Hybrid buses is the latest boost by the Andrews Labor Government to improve the Latrobe Valley bus network, delivering more frequent, direct and coordinated services to more places in the region.
