On Your Bike! Or Just Take a Walk

Pedestrians and cyclists are taking advantage of the newly constructed shared bicycle and pedestrian path

Pedestrians and cyclists are taking advantage of the newly constructed shared bicycle and pedestrian path on the south side of White Road, Wonthaggi. The path extends from opposite the North Wonthaggi Pre-School near McKenzie Street to the North Wonthaggi Primary School at the corner of White Road. The project was jointly funded by Council, Vic Roads and the Federal Government’s "Roads to Recovery" program.

"The shared path will contribute to the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, particularly children travelling to and from school," said Cr. Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.

Cr. Sage explained that the path is part of Bass Coast Shire Council’s bicycle strategy that was adopted in 2000. The strategy makes provisions for the development of on-road and off-road cycling routes in the Shire as well as bicycle facilities and activities.

And a footnote! While the footpath is already being used frequently, Council is disappointed that some vandalism occurred on the footpath during construction. Wonthaggi Police are investigating the vandalism.
