Bass Coast Shire Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said Coastcare Victoria was funding the planting with volunteers from Three Creeks Landcare, Bass Coast Landcare Network and Council staff organising the revegetation program. This partnership has been responsible for planting around 5,000 indigenous plants," said Ms Duncan-Jones. "Last year the focus was restoring an old railway station in the foreshore reserve and this year we will focus on weed infestations around the main car park and playground in Kilcunda." David Bateman from the Bass Coast Landcare Network said they were hoping to get lots of volunteers there on the day. "We will be starting from 10.00am on Saturday," said Mr Bateman. "While we do have some tools and gloves our supplies are limited so it would be great if some volunteers could bring their own. "After working up an appetite, the Wonthaggi Rotary Club will put on a BBQ for our volunteers." Ms Duncan-Jones said some of the areas to be revegetated currently have water views. "These views will still exist," said Ms Duncan-Jones. "Through careful plant selection we are able to ensure we maintain any views but still make important improvements to the foreshore reserve."
