Nominations Called For 2004 Sport And Rec Awards

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Province PETER HALL has welcomed the opening of the 2004 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards.

The awards are designed to highlight and reward the achievements of outstanding individuals and organisations across the industry.

Mr Hall encouraged community members from the sport, recreation, fitness, education, research and private sector to nominate for an honour.

"There are many individuals and organisations within the Gippsland Province Electorate who make a vital contribution to the sport and recreation industry," he said.

"These awards are a wonderful opportunity for those people to be recognised for their work and also to promote and encourage the many innovative and effective practices being utilised in our region."

Mr Hall said ten awards would be presented with the winner of each category receiving a cash prize and trophy.

Categories for the awards are:

1. The Minister for Sport and Recreation Award
2. Community Participation Initiatives Award
3. Volunteer Involvement Award
4. Innovative Organisation Award
5. Safety Initiatives Award
6. Community Event Award
7. User-friendly Club Award
8. Applied Research in Sport and Recreation Science Award
9. Sport and Recreation Education Award
10. Community Facility Design Award

Nominations for the awards close on September 30 and a presentation night will be held in Melbourne on Tuesday November 23.
