By news@gippsland - 3rd May 2023 - Back to News The Andrews Labor government is still completing "design work and statutory approvals" to repair the Sealers Cove walking track at Wilsons Promontory National Park, more than 18 months after it was closed by storm damage in October 2021. The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien, said he was disappointed at the sluggish response of Parks Victoria and the government to fixing one of the most popular walks at the Prom, in stark contrast to the priority given to city projects. 
Delay on Sealers Cove Walk track work has disappointed locals and raised concerns about the priority given to regional projects Repair timeline questionedMr O'Brien raised the delays in Parliament in March and has now received a response. "The government has set a minimum three-year timeline for the repair of Sealers Cove walk and when I queried the Minister on this she confirmed that despite 18-months having passed since the walk was damaged, the Andrews Labor government is still working on designs and statutory approvals." "When it is an urban project it gets done pronto but when it is something in a part of regional Victoria that is critical to our tourism offering, Parks Victoria is extremely slow." Mr O'Brien said. Labor's slow progressMr O'Brien said given that Wilsons Promontory is a world-class national park that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, including many thousands of overseas visitors, this timeline just isn't good enough. "When I saw that Labor had set a minimum three-year timeline for this project I was startled, so to hear that they are still working on designs 18 months on has confirmed my fears that this walking track is being treated as a low priority.
