The two Councils ran a "Walking School Bus, Going for Gold", competition with the winning Council having the most amount of trips on the Walking School Bus.

The highly successful competition attracted over 250 participants between the two Councils.

Wellington Shire Council took out the Gold Medal position with 1,379 walks, ahead of the East Gippsland Shire Council.

Wellington Shire Council’s Walking School Bus Project Co-ordinator Renee Heath said the competition was a huge success.

"Well over 130 kids and over 40 volunteers got involved in Wellington alone. It was a lot of fun" she said.

"We are seeing huge results from the Walking School Bus program. The kids love is and so do the volunteers!" said Renee.

The presentation was held at the Bairnsdale 754 Primary School with all children who participated receiving Commonwealth Games Certificates, drinks bottles, stickers and temporary tattoos.

"It is fantastic to have the achievements of the volunteers and the children involved acknowledged"

Term two is a great opportunity to become involved in this expanding program either as a participant or as a volunteer.
