Additional Coordinator To Boost VFF’S Fencing EffortsThe Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has welcomed the Victorian Farmers Federation’s (VFF) decision to enlist a second fencing coordinator as part of the Latrobe Valley fire recovery process. By Russell Northe - 21st April 2009 - Back to News "Following reports of significant delays in repairing fences on local fire-affected properties the VFF appointed Gormandale farmer Benn Thexton as Latrobe Fencing Coordinator last month," Mr Northe said.
As the size of the task at hand became apparent and with limited assistance available from other organisations, the VFF acknowledged that additional support was required to effectively coordinate efforts, particularly the day to day logistics of volunteer crews.
"The position has now been filled, enabling the local group to run crews seven days per week," the Morwell MP explained.
Mr Northe said the VFF crew were now calling on people aged between 18 and 65 to register to assist efforts in the local area.
"Volunteers meet and dispatch from the Traralgon South CFA shed at 8.30am sharp each morning to clean up and restore damaged fencing," he said.
Registered volunteers are covered under the VFF’s insurance policy and will be sent to properties that have undergone the relevant safety assessment.
To volunteer or donate materials please call 1300 367 700. Those seeking assistance to restore fire-damaged fencing can register their needs by calling 1800 017 777.
