Council’s Recreation and Leisure Planner, Ella Angarane, said Council’s audits recognised the old playground was not up to current Australian Standards.

"The playground was then prioiritied as part of Council’s Playground Plan 2010-15," said Ms Angarane.

"Over winter the committee has been working with Council officers to design the new playground that would be interesting and challenging for local children".

"The new play unit incorporates sand play and features a bucket on a pully that allows sand to be lifted up and then put down a sand pipe.

"This encourages cooperation and children playing together. The playground also has bongo drums, slide and kaleidoscope.

"The playground complements the existing facilites at the hall which include two tennis courts, hit up wall, basketball ring, barbeque and picnic facilities," said Ms Angarane

President of the Committee, Frank Garry said the committee is proud of the new playground and excited to see so many children and families using it.

The playground will be officially opened at the committee’s Australia Day Celebrations. T

he total cost for the project was over $22,000 which was shared between Council and the Committee.
