Special Charge Scheme Approved

East Gippsland Councillors last night approved a Special Charge Scheme for the Tambo Bluff Estate at Metung.

By East Gippsland Shire - 12th June 2007 - Back to News

The scheme will require the Shire council to borrow just over $9 million that will be repaid by landowners over a 20-year period.

The money will be used to finance infrastructure including sealed roads, storm water drainage, pathways, reticulated water and waste-water and the provision of underground electricity to bring the site up to the standards generally expected of similar residential areas.

The removal of undesirable septic tank wastewater systems in addition to better-controlled storm water runoff will also provide significant on-site environmental benefits.

Shire CEO Steve Kozlowski said the adoption of the special charge scheme was a watershed in the four-decade history of the estate.

"The consolidation of the number of lots from 1200 to under 400 and the provision of new infrastructure will improve standards and amenity for all residents," he said.

"Tambo Bluff now has the potential to become a high-value showcase estate for the region."
