Free Screening Of The Black Balloon

As part of the Australian Film Festival, Latrobe City Council, in conjunction with Big Screen and the National Film and Sound Archive, will be holding a free screening of the film The Black Balloon (Rated M).

The film will be shown at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday 18 August 2009 at 7pm.

The Black Balloon tells the story of teenage Thomas Mollison (Rhys Wakefield), who just wants to fit in at his new school. But with his dad Simon (Erik Thompson) in the army, his heavily pregnant mother (Toni Collette) on bed rest and an older autistic brother Charlie (Luke Ford) to deal with, he finds that fitting in is incredibly hard to do.

With powerful performances by a wonderful ensemble of Australian actors The Black Balloon is a powerfully emotive film about fitting in, finding love and accepting your family.

The winner of six AFI awards and the coveted Crystal Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival; don’t miss your chance to see this moving and acclaimed film on the big screen.
