Events Planning Looks For Community Input

Community members are being invited to be part of the new Bass Coast Events Planning Committee.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 3rd August 2009 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community and Economic Development Manager, Patti Wenn, said Council was calling for expressions of interest to fill four community positions on the new Committee.

"The Committee has been put together to allow the community to have input into events held in the Shire," said Ms Wenn.

"The Committee will also advise Council on ways to encourage and help well planned, professionally managed and safe events."

Ms Wenn said two of the positions were open to members from the general community.

"We are looking for people who can represent a broad cross-section of the community," explained Ms Wenn.

"Committee members need to be able to show links and involvement with the local community and be able to represent the interests of other community members.

"You need to be accessible to the community and able to effectively communicate back to them as well.

"The Committee represents the interests of the entire Shire, so we are hoping that people from all areas will put their hands up," continued Ms Wenn.

"Members also need to be able to attend monthly meetings, which will be held during business hours at locations across the Shire. The term of the Committee will be until June 2011."

Further nominations are being sought for community members who are events industry specialists.

"These two positions need to be filled by people with a proven track record in the events industry and experience of event management," said Ms Wenn.

A representative from the Bass Coast Tourism and Business sector and one from the Phillip Island Tourism and Business sector will also be invited to join the Committee.

"With this mix of community representation, we are confident that the Committee will provide sound advice and assistance for our local events," said Ms Wenn.

Expressions of Interest must be made in writing and sent to Frank Angarane, Events Coordinator, Bass Coast Shire Council, PO Box 118, Wonthaggi VIC 3925 before 12 August 2009.

Candidates will be selected via majority vote at a full meeting of Council.
