Celebrating Our Sporting Past

Bass Coast Shire Council is calling for writers and historians to write a factual piece inspired by an image in its Arts Aware collection of historical sporting and leisure photographs.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 6th November 2006 - Back to News

The writing pieces will be used to create a second volume of the booklet, Celebrating Our Sporting Past.

The first volume was launched in July 2006 as part of the Council’s Commonwealth Games activities. It consisted of ten historical stories written by local community members and inspired by 16 of the historical photographs.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden encouraged interested community members to contact Council for an Expression of Interest Kit.

"The inspiration and research behind the first volume of stories was fascinating," he said.

"These stories have provided a unique insight into our local history and we’d really like to do that again."

Council’s Arts Officer, Josephine Kent expects that Volume 2 will be launched in February 2007.

"Works can be in any written form such as poetry, essay, short comment or story, but the work must relate to the image selected and be factual, not fictional.

"Expression of Interest Kits are now available for those wishing to contribute and entries are due 29 December 2006.

"Those selected for inclusion will be awarded a certificate and copy of the publication," Ms Kent informed.

To receive an Expression of Interest Kit phone Council’s Art Officer, Josephine Kent, on 5671 2211, 5951 3311 or 1300 737 227 for the cost of a local call. You can also download one from Council’s website www.basscoast.vic.gov.au.
