Temporary Solution Adopted For Moe Toilet Issue

Latrobe City Council last night adopted a recommendation for a temporary public toilet to be located in the Moe CBD until a permanent facility is constructed as part of the Moe Activity Centre Plan.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Lisa Price, said that providing the temporary toilet would alleviate the perception that there are not currently enough toilets servicing the area.

"By installing a temporary toilet in the CBD that meets the Crime Prevention Through Environment Design (CPTED) principles, patrons in the Moe CBD will have access to another set of public conveniences until the permanent toilets are constructed in the railway precinct as part of the Moe Activity Plan. There are public toilet facilities at the Town Hall, the library and the current railway precinct as well as an all abilities toilet at Apex Park.

"Council officers will also investigate the appropriate location and number of public toilets to cater for the Moe CBD, by 21 October 2009," Cr Price said.

Cr Price added that extending the opening hours of the toilet block at the Monash Reserve was not an option.

"This toilet facility is opened on match days. The design of the building does not meet CPTED standards and it is prone to vandalism. Usage of the facility does not warrant extended opening hours as the reserve is really only used for extended periods on match days.

"The Moe Centre Activity Plan includes provision for the construction of a new facility within the CBD and until then, this temporary toilet will certainly ensure that residents and visitors have access to suitable facilities," Cr Price concluded.
