Have dinner with an author

Wellington Shire Council Library Service is giving residents an opportunity to dine with or participate in a writer’s workshop with John Bartlett, author of ‘Towards a Distant Sea’

By Wellington Shire Council - 4th October 2006 - Back to News

The dinner and workshops will be held Wednesday 11 October.

The workshop will be held at the Sale Library between 1.00pm-3.00pm and the dinner will be in Maffra.

Cathy Carr, Library Coordinator of the Wellington Shire Council said that it was a fantastic opportunity.

"It is a great chance to have a chat to John, for those that want to know more about his experience of being an author"

"We would also encourage budding authors or those with an interest to come along to the workshops".

‘Towards a Distant Sea’ is based on the author’s own experiences in the Southern Philippines during the Marcos Martial Law years. These were the years when the Islamic separatist groups, now being blamed for training the Bali bombers were forming.

Ms Carr said that whilst this was the author’s debut novel he was receiving excellent reviews.

High Court Judge Michael Kirby has described this novel as ‘a story … about the impact of repression on the human spirit — and the way, despite all odds, humanity struggles endlessly against worldly authority.’
