Arts centre contractors raise the roof for New Year

Although many business and industry workers will be enjoying a relaxing holiday after Christmas, for some, the festive season will be a short one, as there’s a high profile job to be undertaken.

By Latrobe City Council - 21st December 2005 - Back to News

While the entertainers and audiences are taking their breaks, a window of opportunity is being provided to re-roof the performing arts centre in Traralgon.

Latrobe City’s acting manager city services, Paul Holton, said that the current roof was deemed old and problematic. "It is set to be replaced from late December, but will be finished in time for the sensational Barry Creyton play, ‘Double Act’, set to dazzle audiences in February," Mr Holton said.

"During the construction works there will also be an opportunity to increase safety for any future works by installing connection points to facilitate a permanent roof access and fall restraint system. This will mean that any future work and inspections on the roof can be conducted in a more secure environment.

"While the 850metres2 of new roofing is being laid, contractors will also take the opportunity to install insulation, box gutters and sumps, ventilated ridge and ridge capping, parapet capping, flashing and overflow pops," Mr Holton added.

"When patrons return in February, they will be returning to a facility without the occasional leaks that were notable in recent years!"
