Improvements to sporting facilities across Latrobe City benefited the wider community.

Following the announcement of the $650,000 funding for a pavilion to be constructed at the Latrobe Synthetic Sports Field, a further two Latrobe City projects will receive funding through the Victorian Government’s 2017/18 Community Sport Infrastructure Fund. Projects include a synthetic bowling green and turf and synthetic wickets. Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said the improvements to sporting facilities across Latrobe City benefited the wider community.

"We are pleased to have received funding for the Moe Bowling Club to construct a synthetic bowling green, with work to start early in 2018. The grant of $100,000 has been matched by Moe Bowling Club’s own contribution of $105,000 to the project.

"Construction of a six wicket turf bench at the Jack Canavan oval and three further synthetic wickets at the Traralgon West Sporting Complex. The $55,000 project will begin in late 2017, after the AFL season," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"Council is looking forward to working in collaboration with the clubs and user groups next year.

"As befits our regional city status, Latrobe City’s reputation for top quality sporting facilities is flourishing. We love our sports here and we want our athletes to have access to superior facilities. These grants go a long way towards realising that goal,"

Cr O’Callaghan concluded.
