Local Sports Clubs in Morwell Electorate Score a Vichealth GrantSporting clubs to receive a share in more than $370,000 in funding. By Portal Admin - 15th July 2018 - Back to News Sporting clubs in the Morwell Electorate will receive a share in more than $370,000 in funding as part of the latest round of health promotion foundation VicHealth’s Active Club Grants, an initiative to encourage more Victorians to get physically active.
Building on the momentum generated by VicHealth’s successful This Girl Can – Victoria campaign, the new funding will help local sport clubs across Victoria deliver more opportunities for women and girls to get active.
The grants will also provide more social, flexible and accessible sport programs as well as more opportunities for people from disadvantaged communities to take part in sport.
Russell Northe said the local grants will make a significant difference to nearby clubs and help more local residents get involved in community sport.
"We want to support locals to get active and embrace a healthy lifestyle, no matter what age, gender or ability," Mr Northe said.
With these Active Club Grants, local sport clubs will be able to deliver a wider range of opportunities for everyone to get active, regardless of ability.
Regular physical activity not only protects against many illnesses, it also supports us to be mentally healthy, alert and resilient against the stresses of modern life.
"Grassroots sports clubs are at the heart of our community so I welcome this new funding that will make it easier for people to be active." said Mr Northe
"With the $1543 grant awarded to TEDAS Junior Football Club they will use the funds for uniforms for female team in the U10 Competition for 2018 in the Traralgon and District Junior Football League."

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said the grants will help more Morwell Electorate residents to make physical activity part of their day-to-day life.
"This program is about supporting Victoria’s grassroots sport clubs to provide a wider range of opportunities for more of the community to get involved in," Ms Rechter said.
Through our This Girl Can – Victoria campaign we’re seeing women across the state smashing oldfashioned stereotypes about what women can do in the gym, on the sports field and in our communities.
"This funding is about supporting clubs in Morwell Electorate to enable more women and girls – particularly those less active Victorians – to get active in a sport they’re passionate about and want to take part in."
"I encourage Morwell electorate residents to get involved in their local sports clubs – it’s a fun way to keep active while connecting with like-minded people in your local community." Mr Northe said.
