Support Flows To Latrobe Valley Multicultural Seniors Groups Nine multicultural seniors groups in the Latrobe Valley will share over $15,000 of funding from the Victorian Government following an announcement today from the Member for Morwell Russell Northe. By Russell Northe - 27th April 2012 - Back to News These grants are aimed specifically at supporting multicultural senior citizens clubs to hold regular social and community strengthening activities.

„h Greek Orthodox Community of Gippsland
„h International Women¡¦s Group
„h Morwell Senior Italian Citizens Club
„h Maltese Community Centre
„h Association of Filipino Australians in Gippsland
Each year the Victorian Multicultural Commission runs a Community Grants Program to provide support to Victoria¡¦s culturally and linguistically diverse communities, to develop and sustain local community organisations and programs, said Mr Northe.
¡§The aim of the grants program is to strengthen the capacity of individuals to manage their own affairs, to participate in and influence their local communities and to participate in the benefits available to them as members of the community.
¡§Importantly, these grants help to address the needs of our multicultural communities, combat the disadvantages faced by many of these communities while at the same time promoting community cohesion and harmony.
¡§Victoria has been enriched by the presence of people from all over the world.¡¨
These grants will assist our elderly citizens from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to hold regular activities and events which will provide them with friendship and support in their later years.
