Help Guide Guide Park

The Guide Park Community Steering Committee has developed a Concept Plan for the redevelopment of Wonthaggi’s Guide Park and is currently seeking your comments.

The park is a beautiful and relaxing focal point for residents and visitors to the area but remains out of reach to significant numbers of children and adults with disabilities, people in wheelchairs, the aged and those using walking aides because of the lack of accessible facilities and pathways.

The Park will be redeveloped using "universal access" principles. Council was successful in seeking external funding for the project, which will be combined with a significant contribution from Council.

"The concept plan and redevelopment aims to ensure access for all to Guide Park, regardless of ability," said Cr Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council. "Being able to access and participate in local leisure and recreation opportunities is integral to a sense of belonging and being part of a community."

The concept plan will be on display until Friday 16 November at all of Council’s Customer Service Centres, as well as local libraries, Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre and the Wonthaggi Senior Citizens Clubs.

"The steering committee encourages members of the public to have a look at the plan and fill in a feedback sheet," said Cr. Sage. "This feedback may then be taken into consideration in the development of this exciting project.’

Proposed enhancements include:

  • New wheelchair accessible BBQ facilities · New rotunda
  • Increased bench space and seating · Sensory garden
  • Fenced leash-free dog area · Water feature
  • Improved traffic flow · Accessible pathways
  • New unisex disabled toilet · Increased parking
  • Upgraded playground facilities including accessible play equipment
