Todd Finishes In Top 30 In Fiji" Edison Mission Energy Gippsland Sports Academy rising star, Todd Alexander travelled to Fiji last month to compete in the Aaron Baddeley Junior World Championship. By Gippsland Sports Academy - 20th December 2004 - Back to News The large field of golfers was filled with an array of junior world talent from countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Fiji, Japan, Australia and the strong USA team all arriving for the tournament which was held from December 6th through to the 9th.
Held at the Denarau Golf Club on the beautiful island country of Fiji, the competition involved a selected team’s event and an individual event held over four rounds. Todd entered in the individual field and started off the tournament in scintillating form, shooting a 74 in the opening round and backing that up with a strong 73 on day two.
The Mirboo North based golfer then finished off the tournament with rounds of 77 and 81, finishing in twenty seventh (27th) place on the leader board which was an excellent result in the scratch event for Todd. Todd explained that he approached the tournament as a great opportunity to develop his golfing skills in an international field. "Some of the golfers here are nearly ready to become professionals." The winner of the tournament posted a 16 under scorecard with rounds of 69, 67, 69 and 67 at just 17 years of age.
Todd, at just 15 years old, has dropped his handicap by five shots in 2004, from 10 down to 5. The year has also brought about much success for Todd, who was selected for the VGF Young Achievers Squad and also graduated from the Edison Mission Energy Gippsland Sports Academy Golf program just last month. Todd has shown huge improvements in his swing technique, fitness and mental approach to golf.
Todd has resumed training as his busy summer continues with VGA tournaments being held in Melbourne and also Gippsland Junior Pennant 2005 beginning in the New Year.
