Latrobe City is inviting community feedback on proposals for greater car parking flexibility at the Seymour Street Car Park in Traralgon.

By Latrobe City Council - 24th April 2009 - Back to News

Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said council has received comment from a number of traders, shoppers and stakeholders within the Traralgon CBD, suggesting that there is a need for greater parking flexibility within the Traralgon shopping precinct.

"This comment is important to Latrobe City Council as it believes that parking and an appropriate range of parking options are critical to the development and delivery of a vibrant, thriving and successful CBD," Cr Price said.

"In response to this comment, Latrobe City Council anticipates that a traffic management and car parking study within the Traralgon CBD will be undertaken in the 2009/2010 financial year as part of the Traralgon Activity Centre Plan Project," Cr Price explained.

"While this review will encompass all parking within the CBD, Latrobe City Council is seeking to respond in the interim by reviewing options for greater car parking flexibility at the Seymour Street Car Park following feedback received from a survey of car park users."

Latrobe City councillor, Cr Rohan Fitzgerald, said shoppers and business people who use the Seymour Street Car Park are being asked through the survey to indicate if some of the all day parking should be changed to three-hour.

"Some people believe that changes to time limits would better reflect their own shopping or business needs," Cr Fitzgerald said.

Survey forms are available from any Latrobe City Council service centre, from council’s website www.latrobe.vic.gov.au; and are also being published in the Latrobe Valley Express on Thursday 23 April, and Traralgon Journal on Tuesday 28 April.

Completed surveys should be returned by Monday 4 May 2009 to any Latrobe City Council service centre, or by mailed to ‘The Acting Manager Infrastructure Operations, Latrobe City Council, PO Box 264, Morwell 3840.

Cr Fitzgerald said that feedback will be assessed and any changes to parking limits in the Seymour Street Car Park will be made in conjunction with the extended hours of operation that will come into effect towards the end of May 2009.

Hours of operation for the Seymour Street Car Park will be Monday to Thursday 6am - 8pm; Friday 6am - 9.30pm; and Saturday 6am - 6pm. The facility remains closed on Sundays.

"Signs will be modified and the public notified when changes come into effect," Cr Fitzgerald added.

For further information please contact the Acting Manager Infrastructure Operations, at Latrobe City Council, telephone 1300 367 700.
