Bass Coast Shire Council will once again offer its Green Waste Amnesty fee-free disposal period from 28 October until 14 December 2016.During this six-week period, residents and visitors will be able to dispose of domestic sized loads of green waste free of charge at Grantville Landfill, Wonthaggi and Inverloch Transfer Stations and Cowes Recycling Bank. Council offers this service to encourage residents and holiday home owners to get ready for the fire season each year by removing overhanging limbs, dry leaves and cutting long grass, of which they can dispose of for free at our local facilities. Weed species and species that cannot be physically mulched (such as palm fronds) will not be accepted in the green waste disposal, therefore fees will apply. Council’s General Manager Sustainable Development and Growth, Allison Jones, asked residents to be patient when disposing of green waste at Transfer Stations and the Cowes Recycling Bank. "We expect all facilities will be in extremely high demand during the opening weekend of the amnesty period and it is strongly recommended that people deposit their green waste on an alternate weekend within the amnesty period, if possible, to avoid queuing," Ms Jones said. "Customers looking to deposit general waste or recycling should also be aware of potential delays during this period." Should there be extensive queues, access to the Cowes Recycling Bank facility will be closed after 3.00pm to allow the unloading of vehicles already on site.
