Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting Smiths Beach, Sunderland Bay, Sunset Strip and Surf Beach residents to take part in a series of community planning workshops that will provide an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of their communities.

Council’s Community Planning Facilitator, Paul Greco, said over the coming weeks all ratepayers in the area will receive information kits explaining the process and inviting them to participate.

"We encourage renters in the area to participate and they should contact Council for a kit," said Mr Greco.

"The first workshop will be held on Saturday, 18 July from 2.00-4.30pm at the Cowes Cultural Centre Hall, so there is plenty of time to get a kit and get involved."

Council secured funding from the Department of Planning and Community Development to work with communities on the development of local community plans.

"We have people in the community with a lot of great ideas. This is an opportunity to come along and share knowledge about resources that already exist, discuss what else is needed and develop plans that will enable communities to work together to help meet these needs."

After beginning in Inverloch, Council is initiating the process in these four Phillip Island communities.

"A second workshop will be held on Saturday, 29 August at 2.00pm. Future meeting venues and times will be determined by the community members involved.

"If you’re unable to attend the first workshop please contact us, as we have developed a simple questionnaire so you can still share your ideas or make comments," encouraged Mr Greco.

For more information about the workshops phone Paul Greco, Community Planning Facilitator on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or email p.greco@basscoast.vic.gov.au.
