Welcome boost for Wellington’s small business drive

Wellington Shire Council has received a major boost for its promotion of commerce with the Minister for Small Business, the Hon Marsha Thomson MP, announcing a grant of $15,000 for small business marketing workshops for the Yarram/Port Albert area.

The workshops will assist business owners understand the major theories, principles and practices of successful marketing to increase their profitability. Run by marketing consultants, Nexus Consulting (Aust) Pty Ltd and Michael Burke, Mindshop facilitator, they will be geared towards significantly improving business performance and will provide the chance for participants to meet other operators and develop local networks.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Lyndon Webb: "Marketing skills are important to small businesses, especially those in the tourism industry which is developing as a significant area of our economy.

"In our ever-changing environment, our businesses need to keep pace with competing demands on their market share. By providing expert help, together with information on how to compose a marketing plan and implement marketing strategies, our businesses will be able to not only maintain, but increase their customer base."

"I am pleased that we have funding to subsidise this project, and that Wellington Shire will be actively co-ordinating it."
