Mayor Calls For Patience During Freeway Closure Princess Highway Latrobe City’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White has called on the local community to be patient whilst the Princes Freeway at Morwell remains closed due to land movement at the International Power Hazelwood mine. By Latrobe City - 14th February 2011 - Back to News "The various authorities, Victoria Police, VicRoads, International Power Hazelwood and Department of Primary Industry, are working together to monitor the situation and to understand any implications that may arise. We, as the local government authority, will ensure that local residents continue to be informed about the situation and will ensure updates are provided on a regular basis.
"I would appeal to the community for patience and tolerance whilst the freeway remains closed. When using the alternative route, along Princes Drive, drivers must exercise caution and understand that the traffic conditions are different to that of the freeway. Princes Drive is capable of handling heavy vehicles, but the flow of traffic will be slower, resulting in potential delays in travel time.
"Take a little time to plan your journey, allow extra time if necessary and drive carefully," Cr White explained.
An invitation-only meeting for residents in proximity of Wallace Street is being held at 5.30pm at the Latrobe City corporate headquarters in Morwell.
