Council supports Rosedale’s fight for aged care facility

Wellington Shire is pulling out the stops in support of Rosedale’s fight for a 60 bed aged care facility proposed for the town, following the disastrous news that the company looking to construct and manage the facility has now decided to withdraw.

By Wellington Shire Council - 12th July 2004 - Back to News

This shocking announcement by Croft Health Care Pty Ltd, the private company granted the licence, means that unless a suitable replacement can be found, the 60 bed provision approved by the Federal Government might now be located elsewhere. This would take potential community and economic benefits away from Rosedale and Wellington.

Anxious to prevent this happening, the council has been holding constant discussions with The Hon Peter McGauran, Federal member for Gippsland and Minister for Science, with a view to helping the local community seek an alternative operator for the facility.

Any interested companies are being urged to contact Wellington’s Director for Strategic Initiatives Bruce Graham on 5142 3381 for more information.

The council appreciates the work being put in by Mr McGauran, who is advocating for the retention of the facility in Rosedale with the Minister for Health and Ageing, The Hon Julie Bishop.

This aged care facility issue in no way compromises the $2.4 million Rosedale multi-purpose community centre project, which is an entirely separate initiative and progressing smoothly.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "We greatly appreciate Mr McGauran’s efforts and contribution to help save the aged care facility for Rosedale and are anxious on behalf of the Rosedale and Shire communities to ensure that the facility goes ahead.

"Needless to say, this current situation in no way threatens the multi-purpose community centre, which is about to enter the detailed design stage."

The Council will be holding a meeting with the Rosedale community before the end of July to update them on the aged care facility and to answer any questions. For details please contact Wellington’s Administration Information Officer Lauren Carey on 5142 3326.
