Two days of wine and food events in Bass Coast has left ‘foodies’ wanting more.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 26th March 2009 - Back to News

Local produce was on show at the World’s Longest Lunch on the Kilcunda Trestle Bridge and at the Inverloch Wine and Food Festival - both events are part of the Melbourne Food Festival.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane, said the events not only showcased the region’s fresh produce, but also its classic scenery.

"It was a magic day for the World’s Longest Lunch and what a perfect location for it," said Mr Angarane.

"Caterers Sarah Ashe and Miekle’s Bistro did an amazing job making and serving a six course meal on the trestle bridge to 195 customers

"This shows that, as a region, we have the produce and people, to be able to cater for this sort of event. It was so successful, we hope to make it an annual event," said Mr Angarane.

The Inverloch Food and Wine Festival was held on Saturday with over 1,000 people attending.

"The weather turned on Saturday for the food and wine festival which did affect the numbers, however there was still and excellent turnout," said Mr Angarane.

"The success of these two events has proved that we can host great food and wine events and hopefully we’ll be able to get more events like them into the calendar."

Inverloch Food and Wine Fest President, Dom Brusamarello, was pleased with the way the event went.

"Considering the weather conditions the support given to the festival was exceptional," said Mr Brusamarello.

"We were able to continue with the event due to the provision of a large all weather marquee. This meant that patrons could enjoy the festival rain, hail or shine – and rain it did.

"This year the festival promoted 18 food and ten local wine exhibitors who were generally very pleased with the day," said Mr Brusamarello.

While the weather kept some patrons away, there was an increase in the number of wine glasses sold for tastings from the previous year.

"The committee would like to thank the Rotary Club for manning the entry tent and MC Scott Major and food patron Caterina Borsato for engaging the crowd in difficult conditions," Mr Brusamarello said.

"Caterina did some fantastic interviews with local producers like Emma Gunsey from Capra Cheeses and wine maker Marcus Satchel.

"These were interspersed with cooking demonstrations by Spice Island, Red ElkCafe & Bar and Tomo Modern Japanese.

"We also must thank our fantastic local musicians Insoul, Troppo and Julia and Daniel Bowden for providing great musical interludes," said Mr Brusamarello.

The monthly Inverloch Farmers’ Market was held on Sunday which rounded out a weekend of food events.
