Info Sessions On Wave Erosion

Bass Coast Shire Council is hosting information sessions to gather local knowledge on how wave erosion is affecting the foreshore between Erehwon Point and Coughlan Road, Cowes.

By Bass Coast - 13th October 2010 - Back to News

The sessions will be held at the Cowes Cultural Centre on Wednesday, 27 October at 3.00pm to 5.00pm and 6.00 to 8.00pm.

Council’s Coast and Bushland Coordinator, Derek Hibbert, said the information sessions would provide information on an erosion and storm surge study that is currently being completed.

"The study will examine how coastal processes such as waves, wind, tide and currents have shaped the foreshore over time," said Mr Hibbert.

"It will also include an assessment of how effective existing structures (such as sea walls and groynes) are at protecting public and private assets."

The study will investigate other options to offer protection of assets into the future, based on the potential impacts of climate change.

"We know there are many local residents and visitors who have a valuable understanding of the sea and its influence on the Cowes Foreshore," explained Mr Hibbert.

"We are asking these people to come along to an open information sharing session to provide input to the project. Participants will also learn more about the investigation."

If you can not attend the sessions but would like to contribute to the project or require further information please contact Derek Hibbert on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
