Inverloch Community Hub Committee

Are you part of the Inverloch community? Do you have a vision for the kind of services needed in Inverloch?

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th November 2009 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking nominations for the Inverloch Community Hub Committee. The Committee will be involved in the promotion and improvement of community services offered at the new Inverloch Community Hub.

Community Hub Facilitator, Cathy Giliam, said it was essential to have strong community input.

"We are looking for community members who have an interest in supporting the Inverloch Community Hub to ensure that it is a successful community facility," explained Ms Giliam.

"The Inverloch community has spent time consulting on the design and construction stages over the past two years and now we are looking for their involvement in the future of the Hub.

"The Committee will ensure there is regular consultation between community members, service providers in the Hub and Council."

All interested members of the Inverloch community are encouraged to apply, no experience or previous involvement is necessary.

"We are aiming to get young people and others who are not aligned with any other formal groups in Inverloch interested," said Ms Giliam.

"It is important to have a variety of interests, experience and people involved to ensure we represent the greater Inverloch community."

Nominations are now open to individuals and group members to become members of the first committee.

"People nominating will need to fill out a nomination form addressing why they want to be members of this committee and return it to me by 18 December 2009," said Ms Giliam.

"A copy of the draft Terms of Reference and the nomination forms are on Council’s website or you can call me on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).

"The draft Terms of Reference includes details on how often we hope to meet and what the scope of the committee is. It is expected that we will meet once a month."

Stage Two of the Inverloch Community Hub is due to be completed at the start of December and will be open to the public in the first week of January.

"The Inverloch Community House will move to their new premises, Maternal and Child Health services are returning to the site in a new office and I will also have an office at the Hub," confirmed Ms Giliam.

"The Library and Visitor Information Centre have been operating in their new spaces since mid year and the YMCA has continued to offer recreation activities to the community.

"When the full Hub opens we are expecting to see a lot more people coming into the Hub each day."
