Wellington’s Council Plan for 2004-2008

Copies of the Wellington Shire Council Plan 2004-2008 are now available to view at local libraries across the shire, at the council’s customer service centres in Yarram and Sale and on the web site www.wellington.vic.gov.au

By Wellington Shire Council - 1st July 2004 - Back to News

The Plan has been formally adopted by the Council and will guide its strategic direction for the next four years – outlining its vision and the objectives, strategies and targets for pursuing that vision over the period.

It concentrates on addressing key economic, social and environmental issues facing the shire’s residents and businesses. Community input, including from the local District Advisory Networks (DANs) has been invaluable in identifying priorities for action.

Some of the key issues covered in the Plan include:

  • continuing to pursue the expansion of the RAAF Base at East Sale;
  • assisting Wellington’s business and economic growth;
  • developing and adopting a Population Policy;
  • increasing the community’s understanding of the Council’s policies and activities;
  • supporting key industries such as timber, dairying, primary industry, tourism and energy;
  • promoting good development;
  • managing our natural resources through our Environmental Policy;
  • encouraging and supporting more active involvement by our young people;
  • providing better delivery of Council information and services, particularly through new technology;
  • pressing the Federal Government for funding for transport infrastructure;
  • managing the Council’s finances to optimise its financial position;
  • pursuing the development of coastal infrastructure to meet increasing demand for coastal living.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "This Council Plan is a very important document shaping the direction the shire follows over the coming years. It reiterates our ongoing commitment to further develop our customer focus and to ensure that our community receives best value for the services we provide.

"In targeting key issues we will be working closely with the local community, as well as lobbying on its behalf to the State and Federal Governments as appropriate, and to other lead agencies."
